Content Description
Two related, contemporary cartoons drawn by an American soldier named Franz L. Veerkamp who served in the 139th Infantry in the AEF. The two sheets consist of three panels each forming a storyline of the enlisted man's perception of the bitter realities of the First World War. The two sheets are titled "Their Reward" which refers to officer's receiving medals for remaining in the rear areas and "His Reward" which refers to the private soldier's experiences on the front lines. Both sheets are accomplished in ink and watercolor.
