Toshiko and David Luther Joplin correspondence
Scope and Contents
This collection contains 70 personal correspondence written mainly between a Japanese woman, Toshiko Joplin née Takahashi (1920-2013) from Tokyo, Japan and a U.S. Army serviceman, David Luther Joplin (1927-2001), from Southern California.
A majority of the letters are from Toshiko to David (31 letters) and David's mother Mildred (3). Other letters were sent to Toshiko from either David (20) or Mildred (6). There is also correspondence between Japanese and US government officials and the family (7) about gaining permission to bring Toshiko and Ruth to America. David and Toshiko's relatives and friends also sent correspondence (3).

Biographical / Historical
Toshiko Joplin née Takahashi (1920-2013) was a Japanese woman from Tokyo, Japan. In this collection's records she is also referred to as Toshi Sugata, Miss Takahashi, and Mrs. David L. Joplin. U.S. Army serviceman David Luther Joplin (1927-2001) lived in Garden Grove, CA. They fell in love after World War II, had a daughter Ruth Yuko (1948- ), and later married.
David's mother Mildred is also referred to as Mrs. Alex Taylor. Harold Tanner and Ruth Tanner née Joplin are Toshiko's brother-in-law and sister-in-law. Kachiko Sugata is Toshiko's sister.
