This collection contains a photocopy of one correspondence from Benton L. Yost to his wife and family from France during the First World War. Benton was an officer on the SS Tuscania. In this letter he describes the evening of the 5th of February, 1918, on which the SS Tuscania was struck by a torpedo and sunk. During the event Benton helped the other men into lifeboats and onto the destroyers sent to aid the rescue effort. The ordeal lasted three and a half hours. After the men were rescued they were carried to a port in Ireland.
