This collection contains photocopies of correspondence to and from Pvt. Charles E. Conter, USMC during the Second World War. Conter wrote one letter to his mother and received three letters from a woman named Clare Brown. The letter from Conter to his mother describes his first impressions upon arriving in Santa Barbara at USMC Marine Air Base Goleta, California. Brown's love letters to her "Dearest Chuck" are full of love and kisses and wishes for his safe and speedy return. She writes from her home in Sindey, Australia. The donor (Conter) mentions in his cover letter that he was associated with Brown while stationed in the island of Guadalcanal, Solomons-Espirto Santo, New Hebrides and the Fiji Isalands.
