This collection contains one memoir, 32 pages printed on white paper, "A World War II Memoir" by Walter S. Hern, Jr. The memoir contains the personal story of 2ndLt. Walter S. Hern, Jr., USAAF during the Second World War while he served with 705th Bomb Squadron, 446th Bomb Group, Second Air Division, Eight Air Force from August to November 1944. Hern was shot down by the Germans over Netherlands and writes about his experience with the Dutch underground, including specific people, before he was transferred back and discharged. Also included with the personal narrative are photographs of soldiers, pilots, and B-24 bombers. The donor, Linda Updegraff, was given the copy of the memoir by Walter while she was a caregiver at Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, CA where he was a patient.
