This collection consists of one letter from Alan Tompkins, United States Navy to his family during the Vietnam War. The letter is dated May 21, 1967 and was written letter while Tompkins was stationed in the Gulf of Tonkin, aboard the USS Bon Homme Richard (CVA-31).
Of interest is his mentioning of a step-up in the war effort, with an increase in bombing missions into North Vietnam. He also mentions the addition of the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise, along with many other, smaller ships to the taskforce.
