This collection contains 1 four page letter from Walter E. Smith to Shirley "Shirl" Smith, written aboard the U.S.S. Platte 14 June 1953. He describes a bombardment of the shore by the U.S.S. New Jersey, which is close enough to make the Platte shudder with each shot.

The collection also includes a brief congratualtory note from the commander of the Platte, congratulating the crew on a job well done during a trying time.
