 Collection — Multiple Containers
Identifier: 2017-303-w-r

Content Description

This collection contains correspondence between John P. Malbrain, Chief Radio Technician aboard the U.S.S. Egeria and his family and friends during the Second World War. Malbrain's letters to his wife, Corporal Jeanne Malbrain, detail his experiences aboard the ship in the Pacific theater. Later, Malbrain was injured in an unspecified incident and transferred to a Naval hospital for recovery and later transferred back to the United States. During that time, he discusses his routine in the hospital and how he is recovering.

Letters from Jeanne to her husband discuss her service in the Women's Army Corps at Fort Myer, Virginia. She talks about the other women, the food she cooks, movies she sees, and books she reads.

This collection also contains correspondence from John's father Joe to both John and Jeanne, correspondence from Jeanne's sister Marion Dockstader to John, correspondence from Jeanne's parents to her and John, and correspondence from John and Jeanne's mutual friends Norman "Goldie" Goldenberg, and several others, along with photographs and ephemera.
