Michele Bifulco Second World War correspondence

 Collection — Box: WWII 14, Folder: 3
Identifier: 2017-183-w-r

Content Description

The collection includes five correspondence from Private First Class Michele Bifulco, United States Army, to his fiancee Margaret Tornee in Brooklyn during the Second World War. There is also a copy of Bifulco's Honorable Discharge form. The form identifies Bifulco as a Private First Class with the 2489th Quartermaster Truck Company.

In the letters, Bifulco writes about training and about his life in France. He also writes about his longing for home. The collection also includes a Christmas card with pictures presumably of the couple. In another letter, Bifulco transcribes the poem "A Soldier's Dream" by Vance Howard. Two of the letters and the Christmas card are undated.

Although Bifulco addresses the letters to his "wife", the donor writes that the couple married after Bifulco returned from the war. The donor is the daughter of the couple and writes that she inherited the collection from her father.

According to the donor, Bifulco was born in September of 1919 in Brooklyn, New York. The family moved to Maywood, New Jersey in 1960 and Bifulco died in 1964.
