Content Description
This collection contains two V-mail correspondence written by Lt. Robert W. Rill, USA to family and friends during the Second World War. One letter was written on Christmas Day 1944 to his younger sisters Betty and Nancy Rill. The other letter is to Helen and Robert "Bob" Newcomer from Belgium in August 1945, discussing the monotonous routine of the post-war.

Biographical / Historical
First Lieutenant Robert W. Rill, United States Army (6/25/1921 - 10/1/2013) was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania to his parents John and Minnie. Lt. Rill served the Army in the 258th Combat Engineering Battalion in Europe during the Second World War. He married his wife Beatrice Louise Schmidt in 1943 and they continued to live in Lancaster, PA after the war until her death in 2009 and his in 2013.
