Abstract

This collection contains 32 letters and postcards written by SSgt. Lester B. Levy, USAAC to his fiance Julie Kostbar during the Second World War. One letter was written by Kostbar to Levy. Also included in the collection are four photographs, one newspaper clipping, one personal account, and three pages of biographical information. Levy died in a Japanese prisoner of war camp in the Philippines in July of 1942.

He discusses his routine in basic training, from learning how to march to how to shoot a rifle. Thursby was stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia, where he served under General George Patton. Scope and Contents This series contains one scrapbook and one stack of clippings relating to the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. The stack contains 79 clippings from modern papers from 1996-2009 relating to Pearl Harbor anniversaries, memorials, and veterans, as well as one from December 22, 1941 and one from December 7, 1969.
